Dean Zeus Colman, also known as Zeus, is a British artist. He was born in London in 1968. In his latest works, he blends graffiti, typography, sculpture and fine arts. The artist is also known as a pioneer of 3D graffiti. Urban culture is the source of his inspiration. The innovative and dynamic works he has created reflect both his interest in street art and his formal education. Colman attended Chelsea College of Art from 1994 to 1997.
In the 1980s, when the artist was still a teenager, he began writing graffiti on the streets of London, using Zeus as a tag. As a productive and enthusiastic writer, many prominent names in street art culture noticed his work. Back then, Tim Westwood hired him to design his new location, one of the first hip-hop clubs, Spatz, in 1984. Later, Zeus began designing posters for artists signed to Def Jam, such as Dougie Fresh and Whizz Kid. He also taught young criminals in community centres across London how to write graffiti and find a positive approach to their creativity. The artist then enrolled in college and earned a degree in fine arts. He studied sculpture, which led to his graffiti works transforming into a sculptural form.
Dean Zeus Colman works and lives in London, Great Britain.
