Tankpetrol is a Polish street artist who now lives in Manchester. His main medium is stencils, which he combines with carefully placed background details to create clean, well executed works of art.
Born in 1982 in Poland as Irek Jasutowicz, he spent his teenage years making graffiti tags throughout the city. His obsession with details visible in his artworks was evident in his childhood. He spent hours building plastic models of airplanes and boats. In later years he joined the army, where he was a tank commander and a tank gunner. This is where his name comes from. After giving up his army job, he moved to Manchester in 2006 in search of a well-paid job. He couldn’t find it in Poland. It was in Manchester that Tankpatrol first came into contact with stencil art. He was inspired and influenced by anonymous street artists.
His search for personal style and development led him to a complex look. He tries to fade stencils and spray them with other techniques such as acrylic paint and various mixed techniques. Although he doesn’t want to use multi-layered stencils. Tank’s works are very detailed and full of background elements. Inverted triangles, geometric shapes, homemade fonts and logos to create a certain look of stencil art in his work.
Using a combination of stencils, fonts, and traditional paint, Tank works comfortably in various media and projects. These include painting, personalization, large-format mural painting, interior design, and carpentry. He always maintains the best quality of his work.
He has done live art for many British and international festivals and events including Sketchcity and more. Tank has also exhibited internationally, starting with the Upper Space Gallery – the first British street art gallery in the Northwest. Moreover he has had numerous shows in Halifax and Poland as well as group exhibitions in The Place and more.
